BOAT CAPSIZED IN THE GANGES
Babughat (Kolkata), March, 22:
Howrah and Kolkata residents witnessed a tragic accident in the morning. About 60 passengers were feared dead when an overcrowded boat capsized in the Ganges. The incidents took place yesterday about 7 a.m. The accident occurred when a overcrowded boat was leaving Howrah for Babughat. The boat was carrying about 150 passengers whereas the capacity of the boat was only 80. Seventeen bodies have been recovered so far and amongst them 9 are women and 4 are children. Rescue operation are going on still now. According to the passengers who returned alive, the boat overturned due to a sudden big wave in the river. Irregular ferry service was another cause of this incident. Police started investigation against ferry service. Chief Minister visited the spot and announced compensation 3 lakhs for dead passengers. The government has started work to improve the ferry service.
